What is BoB2™?
Created by iiNet Labs, BoB2™ combines everything the original BoB™ is loved for, including plug and play phone and internet with an even sleeker design and some extra special features.
Its physical form is much the same as our previous creation BoB Lite™ but also features a handset which has a full colour screen which makes it easier to use, it also comes with built-in answering machine functionality and includes a parental control.
With the future in mind, BoB2™ is fetchtv compatible and will be ready to go when the National Broadband Network is rolled out.

How much does BoB2™ cost?
The price for BoB2™ is $279 outright or $199 on a 24 month contract. Please remember that this price includes one BoB2™ handset.
Can I rent BoB2™?
Yes — From the 1st of September 2011 customers will be available to rent BoB2™. This is applicable for all Netspace residential customers.

What is BoB2™ Rental?
BoB2™ rental allows you to save the upfront costs associated with purchasing hardware by allowing a you to rent the hardware on a 24 month agreement. The convenience and cost savings of renting hardware allows you to have the latest equipment without having to have an upfront outlay of cash – However you may prefer to purchase your own hardware and have your own BoB2™
So the ability to purchase BoB2™ will still remain an option!
Who can rent BoB2™?
BoB2™ rentals are available to all Netspace residential ADSL and Naked DSL customers.
When can I rent BoB2™?
BoB2™ Rental will go live in our systems on the 1st of September 2011.
How much will BoB2™ cost to rent?
The cost of BoB2™ Rental is $9.95 for 24 months – the same as what it was to rent a BoB™!
I have a BoB™ Rental. Can I stop renting BoB™ and start renting BoB2™ instead?
If are currently renting BoB™ you have the option to return your existing BoB™ (and potentially face a BoB™ Rental Contract Break Fee) and then you can start a new renting contract for BoB2™.
Customers are unable to change their purchased BoB2™ into a rental BoB2™.
If I do pay a Contract Break Fee and decide to switch over to renting BoB2™ – what happens to my old BoB™?
You can keep him! – Perhaps you might put him away in a cupboard for a rainy day? (But please don’t give him away to your friends or family – because your account details are still saved inside BoB™). If you really want to send him back, you can post him to us and we’ll take care of him for you.
Please Note: postage is not covered by Netspace.
What are the benefits of Renting BoB2™?
- Receive the latest and greatest equipment we have to offer, without having an initial purcahse expense.
- Newly connected customers will save further upfront costs when Netspace waives your Naked DSL or ADSL setup charge, saving you at least $79.95 straight away.
- Peace of Mind – BoB2™ rental will remain in warranty for as long as you continue paying the rental fee. In the remote event that the BoB2™ hardware develop a fault, Netspace will replace it with a functioning BoB2™ rental.
What are the rental conditions?
- BoB2™ Rental is only available on 24 month contracts, once the contract is finished you can continue to rent BoB2™.
- At no stage can you "buy out" the BoB2™ rental – BoB2™ always remains the property of Netspace.
- The contract will be specific to BoB2™ Rental and won’t interfere with any existing DSL contracts.
- You can have one BoB2™ Rental for each DSL service you have on your account.
What is included in a BoB2™ Rental?
BoB2™ Rental includes the BoB2™ Modem / Router and 1 × BoB2™ Handset, and associated cables.
What happens if BoB2™ is lost or stolen?
The replacement fee for a new BoB2™ is $199
Can I rent an additional handset?
Additional handsets are not available to rent. But you do have the option of purchasing additional BoB2™ handsets if you need them! This new handsets remains your property, and should not be returned or credited back upon the end of the BoB2™ Rental.
Technical FAQ
How fast is the wireless and ethernet on BoB2™?
BoB2™ is using Wireless N, running on a 2.4Ghz range. Wireless N is the fastest standard of in-home wireless available. Similar to BoB Lite™, the indoor range is approximately 70 metres and is backward compatible with Wireless 802.11b or 802.11g technology. Wireless signal may be degraded by environmental factors such as walls, doors and other electrical devices. The Ethernet ports in the unit are 10/100 Mbps.
Is BoB2™ IPv6 compatible?
The hardware itself is IPv6 compatible, however this will be developed in later firmware upgrades.
Can I connect my landline and my VoIP.
Yes, the unit is capable of running VoIP and traditional landline voice services. Where available the PSTN service can be setup as a failover option if there is any service interruption to the VoIP service.
How do I know whether I’m using my VoIP line or my landline?
Your VoIP and traditional landline (incoming and outgoing calls) can be configured to your preference. By default, outgoing calls will attempt to be made via VoIP and you will hear a quick message if they are to be made via your landline. If you’d prefer, it is possible to set up so an outgoing call is made using VoIP on the BoB2™ Handset or via the landline if using a phone plugged into the BoB2™ phone port (or vice-versa).
Can BoB2™ be used as a NAS (Network Attached Storage) drive?
Yes, BoB2™ has a USB 2.0 port to which an external hard drive can be attached. This allows the files to be accessed over the network by any computer attached (wireless or via cable).
Does BoB2™ have 3G capabilities?
Yes, the unit is capable of running a 3G connection. We have tested and confirmed that both 3G modems that iiNet sell are compatible (E1762 and E160E).
Handset FAQ
How many BoB2™ handsets can I use?
You can register and use up to five BoB2™ handsets. BoB2™ also has a phone port that allows you to plug in an existing wired telephone or a cordless base station, making it compatible with your existing hardware.
Please note, while BoB2™ is enabled with DECT technology, 3rd party DECT handsets can not be supported or recommended to register on BoB2™ as we have not put them through legal certifications or testing. If you have existing handsets, plug the base station into the "phone" port on BoB2™ to make and receive calls.
What is the BoB2™ handset battery life?
Handset standby power is up to 250 hours. The handset is rated at up to 12 hours of talk time between charges.
What is the handset range?
The handset range is up to 30 metres indoors and 300 metres outdoors.
Can I sync the built in address book to other devices?
No, at this stage you will need to manually enter in names and numbers. This is done by using the phone handset to enter the names and contact numbers into the handset’s address book.
How much is each additional handset?
Each additional BoB2™ Handset is $89.95. BoB2™ can support up to five total handsets. Please remember that BoB2™ comes with one handset included.
Can I change the ringtone of an incoming call?
Yes, the handset comes with 15 ringtones which can be used to alert you of an incoming call. You can also adjust the volume of the ringtone using the handset.
What additional features does the handset have?
Handsfree speaker phone allows you to use the handset while completing other tasks, or to enable a number of people to particpate in a phone call. The handset also has a useful alarm clock feature.
Answering Machine FAQ
How much storage space is available to the in built answering machine?
The answering machine can store approximately 10 minutes of recorded messages.
How do I know I have messages available to me?
There is a red indicator displaying the number of messages saved on the answering machine. If the number is flashing, new messages are available to listen to. If the number is not flashing, no new messages have been recorded on the machine.
Does the answering machine work with other handset units?
BoB2™ is designed to work without the attached handset. The messages are saved onto the modem itself and are not playable via the handset. The speaker for the answering machine is on the BoB2™ modem.
Does the BoB2™ Answering Machine support remote playback?
No, you cannot hear the messages on the answering machine via the handset or from another location. The messages are heard from the BoB2™ modem / answering machine unit.
Can I customise the message that callers hear when their call is handled by the BoB2™ answering machine?
No, the message that a caller will hear when their call is handled by the answering machine cannot be customised. The caller will hear “Hello your call can not be taken at this moment, so please leave a message after the tone.” The ability to custom record this greeting will be considered for future versions.
How do I know if Ihave a new message available on the answering machine?
The answering machine has a red LED status indicator, and when a number is flashing it means a message that has not been heard is available on the machine. If the number is not flashing, it means their are old messages available for playback.
If I power cycle the modem, will I lose my saved messages?
No, the unit is designed to store the messages in the event of power cycle or power outage.
How do I make the buttons visible on the answering machine?
The answering machine is a touch panel — you simply touch the front of the modem for the buttons to light up.
Can I adjust the amount of time before the answering machine handles a call?
Yes! This is done via the modem configuration page, and can be done in just a few clicks. You can also adjust the maximum length of each message.
