How does it work?

Netspace Accelerator speeds up your dial up Internet connection using a combination of advanced compression techniques and smart caching.

Netspace Accelerator uses a combination of techniques to achieve its dramatic increases in speed and performance. It's designed to increase the speed of web sites that you visit regularly, so the more you visit a site, the faster it will load.

Netspace Accelerator speeds up web page delivery using five intelligent techniques:

Compression – Netspace Accelerator compresses images and graphical content to make the image file size smaller and easier to download. You can set your own level of image compression, and still choose to view any image at full quality.

Caching – Netspace Accelerator intelligently retains and reuses web page elements as you browse.

Persistent connections – Netspace Accelerator optimises the connection between your computer and our server by keeping it open, eliminating the time wasted by establishing and closing TCP/IP connections to individual sites.

Chunk encoding with parallel connections – When you download a large file, Netspace Accelerator downloads different segments of that file from different locations, allowing you full use of your bandwidth.

Content filtering – Netspace Accelerator allows you to block unwanted content such as in-page ads and pop-ups before they are downloaded. Advertisements are replaced on the page by a light grey box. You can customise this feature, and switch it on or off as required.

How fast is Netspace Accelerator?

Using Netspace Accelerator, web pages can load up to 5 times faster – sometimes more. The more you visit a site, the faster it will load. Here's a table showing the average increases in performance we've been able to receive:

Average time calculated based on loading the home page. First time visit to a web page loads on average 2 times faster. Subsequent visits to the page load, on average, 3 times faster.

What is Accelerated?

Netspace Accelerator makes downloading most web content faster, however, there are a few exceptions.

Accelerated Content

• All text, including HTML and JavaScript
• Most graphics and photos, including jpg and gif images
• Most banner ads, including animated gif images and Macromedia Flash content
• All browser-based emails
• POP3 and IMAP protocol emails and attachments
• Outgoing SMTP email, including great acceleration of large messages with pictures or attachments including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files/li>
• MP3 files, executables and other files, when downloaded from within your web browser

Non-Accelerated Content

• Secure pages, online banking and credit card forms, as well as pages accessed using a Virtual Private Network
• Streaming media, audio and video files
• Files downloaded outside your browser using ftp

Who Can Use It?

Customers on the SuperSaver plan can use Netspace Accelerator free for a limited time. Netspace Accelerator is not available to customers on Block Hours or Permanent plans. For all other Netspace dial up customers Netspace Accelerator is free.

To install simply download Netspace Accelerator, save it to your desktop and then double click it to run the install program.
