Data Packs

What are Data Packs?

Data Packs are blocks of quota available for purchase for customers who may have hit their usage limit.

The majority of broadband services have a quota limit (broken into Peak and Off-peak periods) that will result in shaping if exceeded. By purchasing a Data Pack, the current usage so far for that billing period will be reduced by a set amount. Think of it as shaving off a few gigabytes from the total usage for the current billing period.

Data Pack Sizes and Prices

Each Data Pack can be applied to either Peak or Off-Peak periods. When purchasing the Data Pack, you can select whether to apply the quota to Peak or Off-Peak.

Data Pack quota is taken from the current usage of the service, the total quota figure is not increased.

How are they Purchased?

Data Packs can be purchased and monitored in MyNetspace. The charge for the Data Pack will appear on the NEXT invoice.

Upon activating a Data Pack, a service with a limit of 300 gigabytes (GB) a month purchasing a 5GB pack will bring the total used data for the month down by 5GB.

For an example, the total usage of an ADSL2+ service was 251GB out of 300GB in the off-peak period. When the 5GB Data Pack was applied, the total usage for the period was reduced to 246GB, leaving 54GB for the remainder of the billing period.

A Data Pack will not roll into the next billing period if not fully used. If a 20GB pack is purchased in June, no part of it will be available in July.

Billing Information

Within MyNetspace, you can view past Data Pack purchases. You will not be instantly billed for a purchased Data Pack, it will appear the next time an invoice is generated.

The following Netspace services are able to purchase Data Packs:

  • Naked DSL
  • ADSL2+
  • ADSL1
  • Fibre and National Broadband Network

This includes both Residential and Business plans.

Ineligible Services:

  • Mobile Broadband, Mobile Voice, SHDSL and Satellite connections.
  • South Brisbane customers
  • Corporate Fibre Business services
  • Any legacy/grandfathered plans (plans no longer offered to new customers but that may be in use by existing customers.)

Notifications that are sent to remind customers of high usage or possible shaping will also have Data Pack details for ease of use, assuming their service is eligible.

Summary Information

  • Customers can not purchase a Data Pack for more data than they have used, or have available.
E.g. 50GB/50GB customers cannot purchase a 100GB Data Pack. Likewise, a customer having only used 48GB cannot purchase a 50GB Data Pack.
  • Purchases are made through MyNetspace
  • The Data Pack can be applied to either Peak OR Off-Peak periods.
  • Data is removed from usage, not added.
For instance, a shaped service with a peak period of 100GB that has a 20GB Data Pack applied will have the total usage for that billing period reduced. 100GB to 80GB, leaving 20GB still available for that period.
  • Updated usage notifications will notify customers of Data Pack options if they are on an eligible plan and service.
  • Extra quota does not roll over to the next billing period, the usage will reset to original limits at the end of that period.
