Mobile Voice Billing Explained

At the start of a service (New Customers)

For customers changing plans (Existing Customers)

At the start of a service (New Customers)

At the start of a Mobile Voice service, the following charges will occur:

  • Pro-rata Monthly Charge
  • Monthly Charge in Advance

Monthly Charges

On activation of a Mobile Voice service, there will be a pro-rata fee of the monthly amount to the end of the current calendar month, plus the Monthly Charge in advance.

For example: If you activate the service on the 10th of December, you will be charged 21 days worth of access fees (pro-rata) for the month of December and a monthly charge from 1st January – 1st February (one month in advance).

In this example the following charges will be included:

  • Pro-rata monthly plan charge for 10 Dec – 1 Jan
  • Monthly plan charge for the current month 1 Jan – 1 Feb

Pro-rata Call and Data Usage

As you’re only being charged for part of the month, you will receive a partial amount of the included call and data value. In this instance using the previous example of activation on the 10th December, you will get 21 days worth of included call and data value.

From this point on, invoices will feature one month's charge in advance along with any call and data charges made during the previous calendar month.

Two Monthly Charges on the one invoice

iiNet also allows you to set the due date of your invoice to any date you choose. Making it easier to plan your payments.

Please note this may result in a pro-rata monthly charge, plus two monthly charges on the one invoice.

For example: If you sign up mid-month December and your next invoice is not raised until early January, the following charges will be included:

  • Pro-rata monthly plan charge for mid-month Dec – 1 Jan
  • Plan charge for the current month 1 Jan – 1 Feb
  • Plan charge one month in advance 1 Feb – 1 Mar

This is not a common occurrence, and only happens when the monthly invoice due date is raised before the Mobile Voice service activation.

From this point on, invoices will feature one month's charge in advance along with any call and data charges made during the previous calendar month.

Detailed Examples

The following examples highlight the cause and affect of receiving two monthly charges on the one invoice. Both examples take the follwing condition into consideration:

  • The monthly due date is raised on the 15th of each month.

Example 1: The Mobile Voice service is activated on the 10th of January (before the monthly invoice due date).

In this scenario, the Mobile Voice service was activated before the current monthly invoice was raised. All the mobile voice charges will apply to the current invoice period, from the 15th Jan to the 15th of Feb.

  • 01/03 – 01/04 Mobile Voice monthly charge in advance

Example 2: The Mobile Voice service is activated on the 17th of January (after the monthly due date is raised).

In this scenario, the Mobile Voice service was activated after the monthly due date was raised. All mobile voice charges will be applied to the next invoice.

For customers changing plans (Existing Customers)

During a plan change, you will receive a pro-rata credit for any monthly charges paid or invoiced in advance. At the same time, a new Pro-rata monthly charge will be raised for the current date (of plan change) to the end of the current calendar month.

For example: If you change your plan on the 10th of December, you will receive 21 days pro-rata monthly credit calculated at the old plan rate, and a corresponding 21 days pro-rata monthly charge calculated at the new plan rate.

On changing plans the following events will occur:

  • Pro-rata Monthly Credit
  • Pro-rata Monthly Charge
  • Monthly Charge in Advance at the new rate (if applicable)

Pro-rata Call and Data Usage

During the pro-rata credit period, you will receive the equivalent pro-rata amount of call and data value during that time (at the old plan rate). Likewise, durning the pro-rata charge period, you will receive the equivalent pro-rata amount of call and data value during that time (at the new plan rate).

At the end of the calendar month, a total call and data value is calculated (combining the equivalent pro-rata amounts). Call and data charges for the period are then put against the call and data value for the month.

You only receive a pro-rata amount equivalent to what you actually paid for.
