Advanced Tips for International Roaming

When you take your smart phone overseas, you’ll no longer be using the mobile data network belonging to your wireless carrier. Once overseas, your phone will be in data roaming mode which means you’re not using your data plan and will have to pay for each megabyte of data your phone sends or receives (depending on which country).

It is recommended to monitor your usage on your mobile phone to minimise the cost of your next bill. All charges are excluded from your standard plan allowance and attract significantly higher rates. You will be charged higher rates to make and receive calls, send SMS and MMS (picture messages) and access email and the web. Prices will differ according to the country you are visiting. For international roaming rates applicable to Netspace please see our Mobile Voice International Roaming rates.

Excess data charges on your smart phone can amount to an expensive phone bill. Make sure you switch off the “Data Roaming” setting in your phone. This setting can usually be found under the Network menu, however it is highly recommended to check your mobile phones manual. If you don’t switch this setting off, you risk incurring expensive roaming charges when using email, MMS, web browsing and other data services.

Please be advised that this page is designed to guide you through the steps on how to turn off automatic email updates and data roaming on popular smart phone handsets. For more information please consult your handset manual or manufacture.
