ROMAN POLANSKI
1933-

Polish film-maker Roman Polansky was born in Paris - he studied at the State Film School in Lodz from 1954-1959 and made a number of short films. His film - Noz w Wodzie - Knife in the Water (1962) bought him international recognition. Later working in London, Paris and Los Angeles:films including: Repulsion (1965), Rosemanry's Baby (1968), Tess (1979), Frantic (1988), Bitter Moon (1992) and the Pianist . Stage direction included Lulu (1974), Rigoletto (1976), and acting in Amadeus (1981) and Metamorphosis (1988).
His traumatic life includes internment in a German concentration camp where his mother died, and the murder of his second wife actress Sharon Tate.
