THREE PEAKS RACE - BY SEA KAYAK
By Matthew Watton - April 2004

Paddling a Tasmanian made (Penguin Fibreglass) Greenlander Sea Kayak

My rough plan (weather permitting) is to start 4 days before the yachts and to try and finish the race before the last yacht - which could be Easter Tuesday 13/4/04.

The main influence on my progress will be the wind strength and direction.  On a good day, with the wind behind me I will be able to travel 120-150km but travelling into strong headwinds I could be restricted to 30km.

I intend to camp each night but start paddling by 6am and use every minute of daylight.

Monday 5/4/04 - 6am start - paddle Beauty Point to Waterhouse Island
Tuesday 6/4/04 - Waterhouse Island to Lady Barron
Wednesday 7/4/04 - Mt Strzelecki run (probably more walk than run)
Thursday 8/4/04 - Lady Barron to Eddystone Point
Friday 9/4/04 - Eddystone Point to Bicheno
Saturday 10/4/04 - Bicheno to Coles Bay
Sunday 11/4/04 - Mt Freycinet run/walk
Monday 12/4/04 - Coles Bay to Marion Bay/Dunalley
Tuesday 13/4/04 - Dunalley to Hobart then continue for Mt Wellington run

(This is just a rough guide.  If anything it could take longer but not shorter.)
