vibraphone
VIBRAPHONE
Tuned percussion instrument invented in the United States in the early 1920's with alloy bars and a range of three octaves. It incorporates tube resonators, a sustained pedal and a motor driven vibrato mechanism. The distinctive vibrato is obtained in the opening and closing of the upper end of the resonators by revolving discs which are attached to a spindle.
