New Glue Rules & Rubber Regulations

Don't forget that from 1 Jan 2008 (for juniors) & 1 Sept 2008 (for Seniors) players are NOT to use non VOC free glues. New VOC water based glues are now available and should be used.

From 1 July 2008, those frictionless long pimpled rubbers will no longer have ITTF approval.

2008 Australian Juniors - South Australia

These championships are being held at Pasadena Sports Centre from 28 Sep to 4 Oct.

Tasmania defeats Western Australia in U18 Men. Daniel Huxtable shines with 3 wins, supported by Josh Goodsell and Nathan King with one win each.

Jennifer Sweeney plays well for Presidents in U15 Teams against Victoria winning 2 matches.

Troy Higgins (2 wins) and Tim McKay (1 win) play well against NT with Allen Chen losing a close encounter.

Ron Vincent Retires

Ron Vincent has finally decided to retire from table tennis and concentrate on his other interests. We will all miss him at the Centre and wish him well for the future.

Film with Table Tennis Spin "Balls of Fury"

Here is a link to a trailer of the film:   http://www.ballsoffury.com

I think the film is available at video stores.

"Our" Stephanie Sang qualifies for Beijing Olympics

Stephanie Sang who came to Tasmania in with Clare Yan from Harbin, Northern China in 2002 and studied at Collegiate has qualified to play in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. After moving to Melbourne Stephanie established herself as one of the top Australian women players. Congratulations from all table tennis players in Tasmania.

Glues containing Volatile Compounds Banned

Please click here for an announcement from ITTF President.

TV via PC

If you have broadband connection you can watch TV broadcasts of table tennis via the ITTF website. Click on the itTV icon.

Then click on the screen and you will be asked to download an .exe file. Once installed you need to open program from desktop shortcut and select the event you wish to view. A little slow at first but seemed to work fine when fully buffered.

ITTF site is at www.ittf.com

FAMOUS QUOTES

Here are a few player quotes from past:

  1. I wasted my ability on the unworthy.

  2. Right you scrubbers, off the tables.

  3. Why can't I get a donkey the first round like the rest of you.

  4. If I hadn't lost that round I would have beaten you.

  5. I went asleep at the wheel.

  6. If there were two of me we could have won that doubles.

  7. My grandmother can play better than you

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SRIVER "L" & "S"

Sriver 'S' with pimples positioned  sideways produces fast speed and is designed especially for a fast attacking type play. Sriver 'L' with pimples positioned lengthways creates good control, suitable for ordinary type play.
