The Wellington Shire "is committed" to upgrading the
main street drainage in Yarram, reputed at a cost of some $1.5 million.
Shire President Cr John Jago said, "If it takes one, two or three years,
the work will be done". A shire report indicated that "without a competent
outfall system, draingage in Yarram cannot be improved and all the proposed
road/street works will be compromised without such an outfall". The shire
has set aside $600,000 for the project, but has not announced how the remaining
$900,000 will be raised.
McLoughlins Beach is ready to have a $339,000 street upgrade,
financed by a Special Charge Street Scheme with local landholder contributing
along with the Wellington Shire. The project will provide a safer, higher
quality road system, "providing a positive community impact". The council
also plans to upgrade the toilet block.
